HAVE FORMED THE SANDY AFTERMATH FUND for ECONOMIC RECOVERY (SAFER) FUND

May 24, 2013: Christie Administration Announces Launch of 'reNew Jersey Stronger" Housing Assistance Initiative

On March 21, 2013, Bergen Community Action Partnership (BCCAP) hosted a dinner and fashion show

to benefit Little Ferry and Moonachie, two communities hard hit by Hurricane Sandy. The evening was a resounding success, with Mayor Mauro Raguseo and Mayor Dennis Vaccaro leading first responders from their towns down the runway. Pat Battle, NBC4 Anchor/Reporter was the Guest of Honor, and spoke about the devastation she had witnessed in the towns, and the importance of keeping the rebuilding effort in the news. Special Guest Announcer, Giovanna Drpic, current host of "Money & Main$treet" on FiOS1, introduced the mayors and first responders as they modelled fashions by Sal Lauretta for men and White House Black Market.

Bergen County Community Action Partnership (BCCAP) and the National Community Action Partnership (CAP) in Washington, D.C., are responding to Super-Storm Sandy by working with a network of 1,000+ Community Action Agencies nationally and in New Jersey to raise funds to assist our neighbors through a special recovery fund. Goldman Sachs has made an early contribution to the Fund, in addition to resources that are being provided through Community Action partners and others.

SAFER is administered in conjunction with the 1st Bergen Federal Credit Union, which is making a pool of affordable Sandy relief loans available as well for individuals and small businesses.

Eligible activities include grants and loans for the following: repair of non-profit facilities that provide essential services; emergency repairs that enable rapid occupancy of a home; replacement automobile purchases; rent and relocation assistance. Funds are also available for other needs such as furniture and essential household goods. This fund will attempt to target gaps in the relief system and will seek to keep a portion of the funds revolving by offering a combination of grants and zero-interest loans.

The greatest gift you can give is reaching out to others in need. Together we can strengthen our community by helping our friends and neighbors recover and rebuild their lives. Checks can be made payable to SAFER and mailed to 241 Moore Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601, or click on Donate below.
